It is seriously, such an honor…

As some of you know…at least most of the bridal party…our wedding was featured on Style Me Pretty!!  This was my go-to site for inspiration and day dreaming, and we are honored to be featured.

So, this is probably my last wedding post (though you never know).  We chose the title of our blog to be “four simple words” in order to open up the possibility to posting about other life events in the future.  While we’re not planing any new life events (sorry to disappoint) I do hope to randomly share my thoughts, and find my voice, over time.

Thanks to all of you who followed along in this journey…I’ll talk to you soon!

The Reverand’s Recap…

Hard to believe that Jillian & Justin’s wedding capped off a beautiful spring, and now find us having rounded the corner into full on summer.

The day, as you witnessed or can imagine, was beautiful.

Not one to shy away from crowds, I assumed I’d stand up front solid as a rock while everyone around me wept… and while the infamous Walker boys did sob harder than a gaggle of Jr. High girls with Bieber Fever, I too became emotional.

As Ingrid Michaelson’s sweet voice played and Jillian walked down the aisle with a dad that adores her, I found myself a wee bit wobbly then, and throughout my duties as officiant occasionally felt myself tearing up.

There was no cheesy videographer running around, so mostly our memories of the day are from Ms. Lauren Wakefield‘s & Mrs. Jenna Davis’ beautiful photos, but it’s hard to capture words.  And words are so very important. (Says the writer.)

With that said, I’d like to share with you the ceremony, the words, I wrote for Jillian & Justin.
I hope that as we all “We Will”-ed at the wedding, we will work in their lives as friends and families who take their marriage seriously, holding them tightly to the promises they made to each other that April afternoon.

Kate aka ‘The Rev’

Friends and Family of this beloved couple, Jillian & Justin, welcome.
We are gathered here today for this moment… this time of promising.

And while we also look forward to a night of dancing and drinking and laughing and making memories that will last a very long time, we came together today because we love these two. We celebrate these two.  We support them, and we understand that deciding to love someone forever is something to be honored.

I met Jillian a few years ago, about a week after I had moved from Manhattan back to Indianapolis and started a brand new job.  I think she was more than concerned at first, because it’s just not normal to be as loud and bubbly as I am, almost all of the time.  And while she was probably terrified, I instantly fell in love with her.  And after a couple of hours and the realization she wasn’t going to shake me, she decided on this forever friendship too.

A few weeks later, myself dressed in long blonde & pink pigtails with an “I heart Ken” t shirt on and she dressed as a senior from Dazed & Confused… (don’t worry, this was Halloween, not just another Tuesday), she pulled me off of the dance-floor to the bathroom for a little girl talk.  Out of the pocket of her jean shorts she pulled a half-folded greeting card.  I had no idea what she was showing me, but it turned out to be one of the first, and many to come, love notes from Justin.  This friend of hers, that had just recently become more, and she was glowing with the newness, the excitement, the possibility of this relationship.

Justin has become a dear friend as well, and many months ago, came to see me at work before Lauren’s fabulous Florida wedding, and spilled the secret that he HAD the ring!  I jumped and squealed and turned into a 10 year old girl with a New Kids on the Block backstage pass, I was that excited.  I kept my mouth shut, as did the others that were in on this little secret, knowing that the moment Justin asked Jillian to be his wife, would be the best moment of her life, until today.

Since meeting Jill & Justin, there have been concerts and birthday celebrations, summer dinner parties and evenings filled with laughter with Jillian and Justin and the ones they love… as everyone here can attest to- Justin and Jillian have stitched their lives together with some amazing people… us!

These two, for as much as they can say they weren’t the other’s “type” have begun a beautiful season of life as the others best friend, biggest cheerleader, and forever love.  They have drawn together their families, their friends, their former roommates and coworkers into the patchwork of this new chapter.  One that some of us saw coming, and that all of us are here to celebrate.

I believe in a wonderful God, who adores his kids, who creates them with purpose and designs their lives with goodness, and we are here to witness some of that purpose and goodness today.

Jillian and Justin have both written each other a note to share a glimpse of what they’re heart is feeling today, Jillian, please share what you have written with Justin.

Dear Justin,

In the very beginning, I knew you were an amazing man, but you weren’t my type.  It took a little convincing, and in this moment today, I am overwhelmed… I could not have dreamed that when we started, we would end up here.

But here with you, is exactly where I am supposed to be.  I love you Justin, every single part of you.

You take my edge off, you take me out of my comfort zone, and you make me a better person every day.

Thank you for every time we slow dance in the kitchen, for laughing with me instead of fighting, and for being there when I need you to kill a spider.

Standing here today with you, as your bride, in front of those we love, promising all the right things…my heart is full.  I love you so much.

Justin, please share what you have written with Jillian.

Dear Jillian,

I remember, like it was only yesterday, our blossoming friendship; one that grew into a relationship, no longer denying our feelings for each other, we fell in love.

Our love is more powerful than anything I have ever experienced.

I have never been more certain about anything before, as I am now, about spending the rest of my days with you, my love!

As they prepare to join their lives together, it is important to understand that everyone here has played a part in shaping the lives of Justin & Jillian, and will play a vital role in their future. And thus we are not only here to witness their vows to each other, but also to bestow upon them our blessing.

I ask all of you here today, Do you bless this couple and pledge, now and forever, to support and strengthen this marriage by upholding Justin and Jillian with your love and concern?

Jillian and Justin, please face each other and hold each other’s hands… take a moment to realize where you are standing, who you are surrounded by, and acknowledge the beauty and importance of the words you are about to say to one another.

Please repeat after me…

“I, promise you that I will be your [wife/husband] from this day forward.
I promise to be faithful and honest in every way, to honor the faith and trust you place in me.
I promise to love and respect you in your successes and in your failures.
I promise to make you laugh and to be there when you cry, to care for you in sickness and in health.
I promise to be your companion and your friend, to choose to love you forever on this journey that we make together.”

May I have the rings please?
Please bow your head and join me in prayer.

Jillian, please take this ring that you have chosen for Justin, please place it on his finger and repeat after me: “”With this ring, I thee wed.”

Justin, please take this ring that you have chosen for Jillian, please place it on her finger and repeat after me: “With this ring, I thee wed.”

By the power vested in me by the state of Indiana, I now pronounce you husband and wife.

Justin, you may now kiss your bride.

Friends and family, I present to you for the very first time, Mr. & Mrs. Justin Walker!

While we all still wait for a couple recap blog posts from two of the wedding party, I thought I might bore you to death with a few honeymoon photos 🙂  You. Are. Welcome.

As you might remember, we opted for a more…active honeymoon adventure.  Lots of hiking, sightseeing, touristy stops and such.  We did, I promise have down time, but taking photos while relaxing at the spa would be weird. So, in no real order…we start at the Grand Canyon…from there we traveled south to Sedona…spent a day in Jerome…and did a lot nothing in particular…it was wonderful.

We met so many fun and interesting people…artists, wine makers, random hippies 🙂  We could definitely go back…anyone interested in Sedona 2014?

We did it…

So we got married!!  How anti-climactic was that?!?!

To make up for not blogging during the wedding week or honeymoon…here is the link from our AMAZING wedding photographer…Lauren Wakefield.  She’s kinda good at what she does 😉 and by kinda, I’m jealous of the bride and I was her!

Wedding recaps from our good Reverend Martin coming soon.  As well as honeymoon pics and details…(clean content, I promise)!

From a Bridesmaid to the Groom

Dear Justin,

Don’t worry.  This isn’t going to be a “you hurt her, I hurt you” kind of thing.  I love your bride-to-be dearly, but I think we’re beyond that.

And let’s be honest, I don’t present much of an imposing figure.

I just thought we could talk about something we both love before the Big Day.

You know, you’re bride-to-be.

As you probably know, Jillian is one of my favorite people.  I am so grateful to have such a fierce, loyal, loving, smart and fun person in my life.  I am so lucky to have someone that gets me like Jill does.

Real friends can climb trees together.I was thinking, as I started writing this, about the day you told Josh and me you had the ring.  I begged you to propose that day, as soon as we got out of the car at the lake in Ohio.

Selfish, I know, but I knew I would be moving back to Colorado in a few weeks, I wanted to see that ring on her hand, be there for the champagne toasts, if not the dress fittings and seating arrangements.

Needless to say, you didn’t propose that day.   I’m still a little bitter.

The day you didn't propose.Ultimately, though, I forgive you.  And not because you’re this “great guy” (which you are) and not because you make a mean drink (which you do), but for one reason will I forgive you almost anything: you “get” my wonderful friend. And not only do you get Jill, you know how lucky you are that she gets you.

Seriously?  How lucky are we that we can say that about someone like her?

Do you remember that lunch the three of us had at Binkley’s when you and Jill first started dating?

Jill excused herself to the bathroom and I leaned over to you and said (more or less), “Here’s the thing about Jill – she can be a little crazy.  But she’s totally worth it.”  I loved that you didn’t need me to explain, that I wasn’t being mean, that this was the kind of thing that you knew that Jill wasn’t, in fact, crazy, and that she is totally worth it.

This was the moment that confirmed what I, along with the rest of the bridal party from what I’ve been reading, had long suspected:  that Jillian had found a man that was up to the challenges, and deserving of the rewards that come with loving her, a man that would offer his own challenges and rewards.  That you two “get” each other.

I couldn’t ask for anything more for a friend that means as much to me as Jill does.

I am so incredibly happy that Jillian found someone who “gets” her.  And selfishly, I’m really glad the person that gets her is one that I enjoy being around.

Thank you, Justin, for being someone that makes my friend happy.  I am honored to be a part of this special day, but more importantly, to be a part of your life together.

From Chicago, with love…

my love affair with the future mrs. walker began roughly about 4 years ago. as we all know, there is something so intoxicating about her (sofia pops aside), but i knew instantly i needed this gal in my corner! each time i spent with her, i knew we were meant to be friends. i fell hard and ever since and continue to be amazed by her graciousness and unconditional love for me and everyone she cares for. i know that no matter how much of a high maintenance friend i can be (totally surprising.. i know) she will always be the one person, through thick and thin i can depend on. because of that, jillian is not just a friend… she is family to me. my beautiful touchstone, who in these years has helped shape me in some form into a who i am now.

my love affair with justin started a bit before knowing jill. besides being easy on the eyes, mr. walker is genuine, toothachingly sweet and thoughtful. while he is great at slinging the best made cocktails in town, he was and always will be a great confidant and dear friend. there is something about this handsomely tattooed man too, that just makes you want to be around.

naturally living in a small city, circles collide and it was meant to be for these two magnetic babes to find each other. at first it began as a great friendship, where they commiserated and leaned on each others shoulders for affirmation and advice. it was only a matter of time that instead of crying on each others shoulder, they decided on each others shoulder. hoooooray, and i know you can all agree… FINALLY! after months of scheming and plotting for these two to realize it was right there in front of them all along, i will never forget the text.. “he kissed me!” i’m fairly certain i screamed out loud in a very public place. i KNEW it was the beginning of something beautiful.

so here we are folks.. with a week away and indy’s “golden couple” (how i like to refer to them as) is about to make it official. even for this somewhat pessimistic single gal.. these two really make love look effortless, fun and most of all beautiful. it makes me believe that sometimes, even the right person is right under your nose. you just have to wake up and see it!

to the couple.. i wish you laughter all the days through, a lifetime of perfect kisses and most importantly.. more love than you can possibly imagine. thank you for letting me share in this journey with you. i’ll love you always..

Only 9 days left…

Well, we are officially in single digit territory.  Holy Crap!!

We are in the home stretch with only little things left to do and big things left to remember.  All gifts have been bought, cards (almost all written) and final touches thought of.  We feel so blessed to be surrounded by such wonderful and supportive people.

We’re almost there…

Oh how time flies when your planning a wedding.  We are under the three week mark…holy cow!!  Everything is trucking along.  All the big things are covered and booked…and now we are into the details!  The all consuming details 🙂

I honestly don’t know what to write about…one, I don’t want to give away too much, and two, there are so many “do not forgets” swimming in my head, that I don’t even know where to start!

I can say, I’m over the moon excited.  Excited to marry this amazing man.  Excited to get a glorious vacation.  And super excited to talk about anything but wedding with people!!  Favor…do not, once we are married start asking about babies.  We’ll let you know when that happens (with four new little words), I promise.

So, we’re getting the all important marriage license tomorrow, going over seating charts and diving head first into all the little things left on our lists.  I hope to write again soon, if I can steal away five minutes and am able to un-jumble all the ideas in my head!  Till then, I’m still waiting for some bridesmaids to write a post.  Seriously ladies…get on it.

Till next time…
